International Women’s Day: Karen Love

5th March 2019

Say hello to Karen Love, our ECIS Region Finance Controller. Karen’s been with Expro for nine years and manages the finance function of the whole region; reporting results, budgeting and forecasting.

Karen studied at Stirling University before moving to Edinburgh to train as a Chartered Accountant. She then worked at an estate owned by the Duke of Buccleuch, looking after the finances of all aspects of the business, from farming, forestry, bioenergy and butchery to commercial and rural property management.

Karen then moved to Aberdeen in 2009 where her partner (now husband) lived and started her journey with Expro.

What advice would you have given your younger self?

Be more patient, what’s for you won’t go past you!

What advice do you have for young women looking to get into your field/oil and gas industry?

A career in finance is not easy with long hours, tight deadlines and studying alongside that, however it is a very rewarding career that can open many doors and gives many different career options.

Can you tell me about a female role model who inspired you?

Growing up I was surrounded by strong females in my family. My grandmother, mum and sister inspire me in many different ways. All hard working, independent, loyal and always doing the best for themselves and their family.

Our industry has typically been dominated by men. Have you faced any challenges coming into the industry and how did you overcome them?

My previous role was very male dominated as well, but both there and at Expro I’ve always felt part of the team and that my opinions and contributions are valued.

Why is International Women’s Day important to you?

I think it is important to celebrate female achievements, having a young daughter it is very important to me personally that we inspire younger females to realise that they can achieve whatever they set their minds to.
